Biography
Prof. K. Shyamala is Professor in the Department of Folklore and Tribal Studies, Dravidian University, Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, where she currently serves as Dean, Academic Affairs, and Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell. With over two decades of teaching experience, she has also held the offices of Head of Department, Deputy Coordinator (NAAC), and Controller of Examinations, among other administrative responsibilities. She earned her Ph.D. in History from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, with additional postgraduate qualifications in History, Women's Studies, Sociology and Education, reflecting an interdisciplinary orientation that grounds her scholarship in the social history of tribal and marginal communities. Her research interests span social history, the historiography of tribal groups, identity formation among marginal communities, and the cultural history and folklore of South India. Prof. Shyamala has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and monographs, including studies on the Dommara and Chenchu communities and has supervised several doctoral and M.Phil. dissertations in folklore and tribal studies. She is a life member of the Andhra Pradesh History Congress and the South Indian History Congress, and has served on editorial boards, national selection committees and university boards of studies across multiple institutions in India.
