Biography

Dr. B. Satyavara Prasad is an accomplished Mridangam artiste, academic, researcher and teacher associated with the Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He is an alumnus of Andhra University and holds an M.A. in Karnatic Music (Mridangam), in which he secured First Rank, as well as a Ph.D. in Music from BHU. He also qualified UGC-NET in Music. A distinguished disciple of Padmashree Guru Dr. Yella Venkateswara Rao and other eminent gurus, Dr. Prasad has performed extensively as a soloist and accompanist on prestigious national platforms, including Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, Ganga Mahotsava, Dhrupad Mela and other major music festivals. He has also performed for All India Radio and several television channels. His academic and artistic contributions have earned him several honours, including the KanchiKamaKotiPeetham Asthana Vidwan Award, Mridanga Vidya Bhaskara, Bharat Gaurav Ratna Award, U.P. Gaurav Samman, Purvanchal Ratna Alankaran Award, and Thala Samrat. Appointed Assistant Professor of Mridangam at BHU in 2015, he continues to teach, guide research scholars, undertake research, and contribute to the preservation and advancement of Mridangam and the wider field of Indian music.
