Biography

Dr. T. Neishoning Koireng is Assistant Professor at Dept. of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, Central University of Jharkhand, where she has served since 2013. She holds a PhD from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong (2012) and a Master's in Cultural Studies, specialising in Folklore, from Tezpur University, supported by a UGC-JRF fellowship. Her research centres on the folklore and folklife of tribal communities in Northeast India, with particular attention to marginalised peoples' oral traditions and interdisciplinary approaches to folklore and creative expression. She is the author of Unwritten Customary Laws of North East India (Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Culture, Shillong) and has contributed book chapters to volumes including the People's Linguistic Survey of India and Orality and Beyond (Sahitya Akademi), alongside articles in journals such as Kalakalpan, Modern Thamizh Research, and Kalyan Bharati. Her work draws substantially on her own Koireng community heritage and broader tribal Northeast Indian oral traditions.
