The present paper analyzes the concept of crime in Dostoevsky, who asserts that, crime is not essentially a physical act; rather an ideological intoxication. His novels effectively bring in the rift between the two ideologies- individualism and materialism of the Westerners; and the social spirit and brotherhood for the harmonious growth of the individual and society advocated by the Slavophils
