Notwithstanding a number of language teaching methods like grammar translation, direct, audio-lingual, and the latest communicative language teaching (CLT) being used for teaching of English, the debate on effective English language teaching continues. In fact we have reached the stage of “beyond methods”. My paper would emphasize on the fact that ELT pedagogy needs to be oriented towards using multilingualism as a framework and consider mother tongue as an important asset as far as teaching of English is concerned
